The K-Files - Destroying the Universe

The K-Files - Destroying the Universe

We humans are really getting a bad rap lately, aren't we? What a destructive group we are.

I can think of few things less enticing than getting into the global warming debate--it's like wrestling a beehive from a bear, it just can't end well--so rest easy that this isn't another "Bawww" fest about melting glaciers or economic collapse. What I'm talking about here is so much larger than our little planet. Forget the Earth, humans are so bad-ass that we are not just killing the planet or the galaxy, but the whole frakking universe.

At this rate, there won't be anything left for our future generations to destroy. This is why we can't have nice things...Full Article.

Review: Battlestar Galactica Razor

Review: Battlestar Galactica Razor

When first they announced a 2 hour Battlestar Galactica mini movie, I must say that I wasn't all that surprised. With every normal season episode produced with a movie-like quality, I reckoned Razor would feel more like an extended cut episode (similar to what was done with season 2's 'Pegasus') than anything else.

Sure enough, Razor expertly upholds Battlestar Galactica's TV-transcending quality while filling in the backstory for everyone's favorite doomed Battlestar.

Although season 4 is only a few months away, Razor takes us back to season 2's second half, just after Lee (Jamie Bamber) is given command of the Battlestar Pegasus. Tasked with choosing his XO, Apollo decides on the tough as nails Major Shaw (Stephanie Jacobsen). The spiritual successor to Admiral Cain, Shaw is a ruthless leader who soon finds her disciplinary eye set on Starbuck.

These scenes help to fill in the gaps left open in the main series when Lee takes command of the Pegasus, but the real depth in Razor comes from the flashbacks--mostly recounted through the perspective of Shaw--to the Pegasus after the initial Cylon attack. These stories were already covered in dialog form in the 'Pegasus' and 'Resurrection Ship' episodes, but it was great to finally see them fleshed out visually.

In these flashbacks, it is also revealed that Cain and the 6 model Cylon, Gina, were in fact lovers. Stupid fan-fic "shippers" and geek fantasy aside, their lesbo love affair also serves to add that much more power to Cain's death back in season 2.

In fact, I'd say Razor's most endearing quality isn't so much that it adds anything new to the story, but rather that it increases your appreciation of past episodes. So much backstory has been added to the crew of the Pegasus that re-watching the Pegasus themed episodes is like a whole new experience.

All in all, a very cool experience for the die-hard Battlestar Galactica fan. Never before have I seen a sci-fi story integrate flashback sequences retroactively with such success. Kudos to Taylor and Moore on that.

Also sure to please fans of the original show, Razor includes a couple of action sequences involving the old Cylon Centurion models. I've only seen a few episodes of TOS, but for long-time fans, the nostalgia factor should bring a smile or two.

The final bit of goodness in Razor is the implications it will have on the 4th season. In the closing minutes, there's a huge reveal about Starbuck in relation to the season 3 finale. Not only does it add to the ongoing debate about the spirituality presented in Battlestar, but also to the mystery of the final 5 Cylon models.

Ultimately Razor works both as an elaboration to previous episodes and a preview of things to come. Action packed, heartfelt, and featuring excellent editing and visuals, Battlestar Galactica Razor is everything a BSG fan could have hoped for...

...Now bring on season 4.

BSG Day

It seems like forever and a week since last we've been graced with new episodes of Battlestar Galactica (aka, the best show on television). And although the start of the fourth and final season is still a few months away, the Sci-Fi Channel has decided to toss us Galactaholics a bone with the two hour mini-movie, Battlestar Galactica Razor premiering tomorrow.

To honor this momentous occasion, I hereby announce that Saturday, November 24th, 2007 will now be referred to as 'BSG Day'.

To best celebrate the day, I suggest loading up your favorite episodes of the series on DVD. Failing that, the Sci-Fi Channel will be playing a few season three episodes starting early tomorrow morning.

Not sure which episodes qualify as classics? Well then I suggest you peruse through the new KHYRON.NET Sci-Fi Showdown archive. For those not in the know enough to remember, the Sci-Fi Showdown was staple column here at KHYRON.NET in the early years. Back when Sci-Fi was cool enough to play Stargate Sg-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Battlestar Galactica back-to-back-to-back, I would go through each week and review each episode--pitting them against each other in an unholy competition of science fiction competition.

I did my best to hunt down some of my more rare episode reviews, but multiple hard drive reformats between then and now have made the search difficult. In the meantime, the mostly complete archive can be found Here. (Many thanks to Tim Binnall for the assistance on it)

Here's Khyron's picks for BSG initiates:

33 (Season 1) - The first episode of the show is still arguably the best. The sense of tension and exhaustion amongst the crew is almost palpable.

Bastille Day (Season 1) - A dark episode, it features the introduction of Richard Hatch as the terrorist/politician Tom Zarek.

Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part 1 and 2 (Season 1) - One of the most shocking and action packed season finales ever.

Pegasus (Season 2) - Very relevant if you want to know what's going on in Razor.

Scar (Season 2) - It was a love it, hate it type episode, but as far as one-off shows go, I enjoyed the frak out it.

Lay Down Your Burdens, Part 1 and 2 (Season 2) - This is the finale that changed the entire pace of the series. Don't miss the last few minutes.

Occupation/Precipice (Season 3) - This double-feature premier was BSG at its darkest and most intense.

Exodus Part 1 and 2 (Season 3) - Arguably the best CGI effects ever for a television show. Looks movie quality.

Crossroads Part 1 and 2 (Season 3) - Must see if you want to fully appreciate Razor. This season 3 finale sets the stage for the sure to be epic finale season.

Happy BSG day, all. Review for BSG Razor later this weekend.

~Peace.

The K-Files - Sleep Paralysis

The K-Files - Sleep Paralysis

Yes! Finally! After a solid two years of commenting on paranormal current events, something out of the normal has finally happened to me. I can now officially say that I have experienced the phenomenon of sleep paralysis.

Sleep paralysis may not be the most serious of paranormal events--nor is it even really 'paranormal' in the true sense of the word--but damn if I'm not going to talk about it anyway. You know all of those stories about people waking up suddenly only to find that they are unable to move? Well I can tell you now from experience that it is by no means a pleasant experience.

I didn't see any little grey men or old hags, but it was frightening nonetheless. And the more I think of it, the more I feel this may just have been something supernatural...full Article.

The K-Files - Destructive Disruptions

The K-Files - Destructive Disruptions

There was a time when the 9/11 Truth Movement was confined to Internet boards and late night radio programs. These were the days when we looked to movement leaders like Alex Jones for lively debates on this touchy subject.

Lately, however, 9/11 Truthers have been attempting to break into the mainstream. Though unable to garner positive public reception through facts and reason alone, many have resorted to various forms of outrageousness. You probably remember the big Geraldo At Large live broadcast crashing from September. More recently, Truthers have made their presence known at such venues as a taping of Bill Maher's Real Time program and a Bill Clinton speech.

I fear this campaign of public disruption has put an ugly stain on the 9/11 Truth Movement. More and more, I find it difficult to sympathize with the movement when its most vocal supporters are nothing more than thugs. Is this a new wave of punks hijacking the movement? Or are the Truthers finally showing their true colors? In either case, I feel the damage done to what little credibility the movement had will soon be irreparable...Full Article.

Movie Loft - Endgame

Review: Endgame (2007)

Directed by Alex Jones

If you are reading this review, I'm going to assume that you're at least familiar with radio host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. A polarizing figure in the world of esoterica, his antics either motivate you or piss you right off. In either case, he's got a new documentary out for your admiration or skepticism.

In Endgame, writer/director/producer Alex Jones takes us beyond the globalists' campaign of false-flag terror operations detailed in Terrorstorm and moves us forward to examine the ultimate goals of the NWO. If it's to be believed, Jones' vision of the future is a depressing one. In the opening minutes, in fact, it felt like I was watching the trailer for a new Tom Clancy thriller--complete with a twisting plot of global intrigue. Only this time Jack Ryan isn't going to save the day.

Bilderbergers, eugenics, and transhumanism...oh my. Full Review.
